    Revo SX Gen 3 corrosion

I have a Revo SX Gen 3 that has corrosion on the housing. Attached are some pictures.
I’m wondering if it’s cost effective to get this fixed. It’s a couple of years old.

For what you can pick these reels up for (used) today, it would be more COSTLY (and time consuming) to replace the parts.

    IMHO.

What came into contact with the reel? That's pretty gnarly!

Curious myself on what made it corrode like that. I've got 3 Revo Gen 3s. Never seen anything like that. Saltwater maybe?

That is a saltwater issue from the looks of it, and no it would not be cost effective to repair from what I can see. Dan

Not sure. It was paired with a St. Croix Legend rod. The reel seat had the same pitted corrosion. I sent the rod back for warranty repair. I thought maybe it was from condensation from laying in my rod locker. But the other setups are OK. It's never seen saltwater.

I'll send pics of the rod to show what the corrosion did to metal parts.

Once I get the rod fixed/replaced I'll get a new reel. If I attach that corroded Abu back on the new rod the corrosion will just migrate and do the same damage.

    And thanks for your comments.

Could it have been from a soft plastic lure containing salt? I'm asking because I had some discoloration on my LTB Plastics rod because I had a Zoom worm with salt in it that laid against the metal winding check for a week or so. I was able to get it off with a Magic Eraser, but it took some work.
Just a thought. Really curious to know so it can be avoided with my rigs.
    Hope you figure it out.

Sure looks like salt from a bait that was kept in a locker...Lews reels have come a long ways and
you don't need to go "top of line" for really good quality...
