The BBT and Precision sonar both look good but are super expensive. Here's what I did on both the console and bow and I have absolutely NO vibration or movement. Works excellent and cost me $25 for both mounts.
$15 for stainless steel bolts, lock nuts, washers.
$10 for 1/2" scrap plastic material from a local rubber and gasket store.

Made a template out of cardboard and used a jigsaw to cut the material to fit the opening.

To add to the mix of options, i used a DekIt dash mount for my HDS 10....like said above, used the original cover to make a template, cut it out, painted with bed armor paint and installed.....also put in some re-enforcement behind dash....

The DIY mount might be as strong as the Precision or BBT, who knows, but is it worth the cost of an HDS 12 ( $3-4 K ? ) to find out ? To me, approx. $250 or so for Precision mounts is WELL worth the piece of mind. Used Precision for my new HB Helix 10, and that was only about $825 on sale, no where near cost of HDS 12. To each their own !

I've got mine on the factory gimble. Ran it for a while with no issues (hds12). I think it will hold up fine but I added a brace on each side going down to the console. It's not coming off AT ALL and only cost about $10 worth of aluminum flat bar from lowes.

To each their own is correct. Ran the mount all of the last year fishing KY Lake which gets pretty rough. So far so good!

I've been running a BBT mount on my dash for almost 3 years, currently have a Helix 10 there and may move to a 12 this year. Rock solid well designed mount.

The 5" dash is too small to just bolt a 12 gimbal mount to it. You will need a spacer to get it out of the cut out area. Precision sonar or bbt.

Does anybody have a DIY example of this with a HDS 12?
