    Bluewater UV rubrail install

I purchased a high output UV kit for my boat. Any installation tips for an older Ranger with rope-style rubrail insert. Is the insert going to be prone to fraying when cut?

I haven't pulled the insert yet, so I'm not sure how deep the void will be, but it seems like the LED strip will be recessed into the channel a good bit. Any reason why I couldn't use some type of spacer to bring the strip out closer to flush?

When I put them in rubrails with rope, I burn the ends of the rope to prevent fraying and also put heat shrink tubing over the ends of the rope for a clean look. It is personal preference on leaving them fully recessed or spacing them out flush. Either way they will work fine, just more prone to physical damage from docks, trees, etc. if flush.

The heat shrink is a great idea! I figured I would have to burn the ends, but wondered how that might look. I considered spacing them out to "almost flush"...hopefully discouraging physical damage, but avoiding the look of a "hole" in the rubrail.

    Thanks for the reply!

If you can recess them about 1/8" that's about perfect.

Any suggestions for cramming a 0.5" LED strip into a 0.25" channel, without damaging anything? Maybe heat the rubrail channel a bit?
