I was there the 19th seeing how the new boat ran (a bit rich, if you know anyone who can rejet a Yamaha, I'd appreciate it). At the dam the water was 39-40 degrees, about halfway up I found a spot that was 46 degrees. Think I was still fishing too shallow.

Thanks, I called a Yamaha place up here who said they preferred not to reject, that there's nothing wrong with running "a little" rich...If by a little he means creating a smoke screen so you'll never have to worry about mosquitoes and stumbling after restarting it...

Does is smoke all the time or just when first started and cold? If you rejet will you need to worry when running at a lower elevation? I had a carb merc 175 that was rejetted, worked fine but I never ran anywhere but Elephant Butte or Conchas. This was many years ago.

Doesn't smoke on first startup of the day (cold), but once it warmed up it would have a fair bit of smoke and would struggle the first time trying to get on plane without idling about 4-5mph for 20-30 seconds. After that it would do fine.

I will say, it seemed to be worse at lower elevation in the colder air. When I ran it a couple weeks ago at a lake by my house, it ran fine with very little smoke until the last startup of the day as it was getting cold again.

I am going to see what it does through spring and summer, get a new prop at some point. I am not averse to changing jets for different elevations, just need to know how to do it. I could have 3 sets of jets if necessary and just change them as needed, but I'll see how it does. I'll be down fishing Ute in May, so I'll see how it does even lower.

On Saturday water started off around 44 and ranged from 48 to 51 around the lake by 3:00. Heard some found warmer water but not much for fish in it though.
