Check out the American Bass Anglers! We are a nationwide draw trail, I handle the the north-central division. We cater to amateur boaters & co-anglers who want to fish tournaments on different bodies of water throughout the season. It's a great way to get your feet wet, and go against some good sticks from the area. I included two links below. Our first event is just a month away, on March 19th on the DesPlaines River , taking off out of Big Basin Marina in Channahon.
