    Best adhesive for new carpet?

I'm having a hard time deciding between contact cement and marine glue. I used Roberts 6700 on my trailer bunks last year and some of it bled through and it's making me a little more cautious about what to use this time when doing the entire boat.

Anyone have any experience with this?

Welwood contact cement all the way all day. I do this as a side job. No issues in 12 years.

I have been using Roberts 6700 from Home Depot and TEC indoor/outdoor that you can get from Lowes. Same price I think, but I like the TEC better because it sets up faster in the cooler temps of my garage. Are you doing a whole boat?

Do you just have to do it in smaller sections? The only thing that confused my about that was I thought you were suppose to wait like 10-15 minutes to tack up before touching the two surfaces together, and if you're doing it little by little you just have to keep waiting for you new section to tack up? Any tips?

I don't ever let it set up completely. I get it to a really tacky consistency. You can then work the carpet. As for working size, go for the gold except on main deck and flooring pieces. One side at a time there. What you do in steps are the edges of the lids and the edges of the decking leading into compartments.

That Roberts works good. You gotta go thin.Because It will bleed thru.

Weldwood works great. However, if you ever need to recarpet again in the future, you'd better have a jack hammer to get it off. I used Birdsong Adhesive in my boat and love it! Lays out smooth, not messy, but is a little higher in price ($15 quart) I did an entire Bass Tracker with less than a gallon.

I brushed it on. Doesn't take much, just a thin even coat on both surfaces. Let it tack up, per the instructions, before you put it down. No bleed through, ever.

I used henry 263 for mine and it was great to work with and seems to have really stuck good. When talking to places and carpet people this came up as the best outdoor carpet adhesive. The only issue I had with it was getting it. I had to find a carpet place willing to order for me. I was told by multiple places that it is for Comercial use and due to some epa or other crap they couldn't order it. Not sure if it is true or just laziness but I found a place to order it. It seems to have worked great so far and the backing will come off the carpet before the it all comes off the boat. I did use contact cement for locker edges but the 263 was really stuck in less the an hour. On to deck once pushed down it held well on the inside edges.

Thanks - I'm looking forward to trying it out on mine. Was lucky to find a local place that had it in stock.
