Shoot trough hull transducer mounting question

Anyone ever do this with an HDI unit? If so how did it perform? The instructions say it can't be shot through wood......wasn't sure if there's wood in the pad area or not of the Bullet?

i have a lil Elite 5 HDI I'm wanting to install under the windshield, but not fond of drilling another hole in the splashwell or transome to mount it. And no, I can't squeeze it through the rigging with the 1" plug in, so I'm thinking of pulling the tank amd mounting it in the bilge area.

    Thoughts? Opinions

Excellent, thanks fellas. I've taken the tank out before to replace the bilge, so it's not a big deal. Does the down scan still work decent?

Down scan needs to be on bottom of jack plate.

My puck has popped loose from the epoxy. I have avoided removing my tank to re-install it. But mine is just for a Lowrance flasher. It was great for real time depth on plane. I miss it but I don't want to pull that tank to repair.

    Pulling the tank is a 10-15 min deal...faster on a 21.

Don't know about the SS but the 21xd pulls out better than any tank I've messed with. 10 min and you're done.
