Nice looking boat! Question: I have a 2005 (198) and you say yours is a 2005 (196), why would Champion make both of those models in the same year? Am I mistaken in thinking they're basically the same boat?

I was wondering the same thing. The only thing I see different is that I have 3 discharge holes on the starboard side. 2 bilge and 1 livewell pumpout.

You have a nice looking boat. A Champ on the trailer looks like a relaxed mountain cat waiting for something to pounce on. I like the boats with all flake. Nice !

The 196 and 198 are slightly different in length and beam. This gives the 198 (19'8"/95") the 225 hp rating, while the 196 (19'6"/93") is 200 rated. They both were made at the same time for several years.

Thanks everyone! And yeah what lea said is basically it. Mine does not have a live well pump out, just a drain.

Probably a long shot but anyone know if that small compartment in the front is available anywhere? Or would fabricating one myself be the best bet

Are you referring to the step-up to the front deck? If so, on the original boats, that is a cooler (tho I use mine for small-stuff storage). Others here have made their own. I am sure they will be glad to guide you thru their processes.

I've almost fallen off the boat several times because of that little 2" drop with the cooler, wish that sucker was flush with the deck.

Sharp blue color on your sled. Looked at the 196 when I bought my 188. If the 198 was released, would've had it.
