    Retracting Bungee Rod Tie down

Over the years, I have tried all the rod tie downs and was never completely happy with any of them. The ones I like best are the retractable bungees used by Skeeter on some of their glass boats, but they require under deck access to tie off the loose end of the rubber cord. My RT188 came with the rubber bungee but my rods were always laying on it when I needed it so I figured out a way to mount it in the hollow gunwale. The key was figuring out a way restrain the free end of the bungee without having access to tie it off. The pic shows my design. I won't bore you with the details but if you with are interested, PM me and I will put together a PDF instruction sheet that I can email to you.

To be effective the directions are pretty detailed. I thought it better if I created a PDF document and emailed it to interested parties. It make take longer than desired because I am leaving for TOHO tomorrow and will be gone for 9 days. I will get it together as soon as I can.

Do yours retract or do you have to push them back in? If they retract, do you have to have under deck access to restrain the loose end?
i looked for months and could not find anything that would retract and work into a Blind space.

I sent out 7 sets of instructions by email tonight. If you sent me your email address but did not receive your instructions, let me know and I will resend.
    Steve,
We had a good trip and caught a lot of 3 Lbs + but no big girls. It was post spawn and we struggled to find the fish the first day but after that it was 20+ every day. Very enjoyable trip.

Anxious to get some free time to fabricate a version of these rod keepers!
I can access the backside of my gunwales from inside the rod lockers (after carving out some foam) - and don't want to drill several holes. So I figured I'd try this...
A 1/2" stainless hex-head bolt, bored a holes through it.
    bolt01.JPG
    Then turned down the hex
    bolt02.JPG
Basically a miniature thru-hull fitting for the bungee to pass through.
Next, fab a "hook" and a deck plate from Lexan sheet.

That looks great, obviously you have a lathe. Do you have a vertical mill too? That would be my dream shop. I have to limit my tinkering to hand tools.
