    Ranger RT188 butt seat

I just picked up my Ranger Butt seat and put it on a Hydraulic pole (pole not from Ranger ) also non threaded... seems really wobbly in the hole. Are they all this way ? Or do I need a Threaded one ? Wondering if I should of got the pole directly from Ranger..... dealer gave me this one.

    Thanks !

Just needs to be threaded, and a strap wrench to help tighten it is a good idea.

I've been using one of the store brands in mine since I got it and never had it be wobbly. It's not threaded. I bought it so long ago I couldn't tell you the brand.

I can't keep mine tight, with the threaded Ranger post. The hydraulic part is broken already, barely a year old but it doesn't wobble.

I use a threaded hydraulic swivel-eze and it doesn't wobble.

Wish they would use the snap lock bases instead of the threaded bases.

I'll take the pin over those snap locks every day. i've spent too many hours cussing those things when they get stuck in the hole. The pins seldom get stuck.

Now keep an eye on it, they have a tendency to loosen with use and have to be periodically retightened. I have thought about using a mild thread locker but haven't tried it yet.

I have thought about the threadlocker too. Also I know you can buy sizeable lockwashers from McMaster that may do the trick.

I wonder if it's the carpet being layed over the base plate that causes them to loosen . Mine do the same and I'm scared to over tighten them and strip them out

    It's all good !

Don't forget to lube your pole before you put it in the hole. It won't get stuck that way.
Useful for many things in life.

I had some 1/8" thick rubber gasket sheet material from work. I cut a rubber washer out and slid it over the pin and tighten the pole down by hand but tight.
The rubber eliminated the slip between the aluminum pole and carpet on the base.
That was on my other boat and I need to remember to cut some for this boat because it dose loosen up a few times a day.
    The rubber dose work.

Hmmm, a rubber washer. I have some hard rubber conveyor belt material somewhere in the shop. I wonder if that would do the same thing.

those are on glass boats. threaded the answer. put it in hand tight then as much as you can get it to turn by hand. Useing a strap wrench will lead to future thread problems with the pole and the base

My threaded post wobbles because the threads on it are stripped. So now I have to buy a new pedestal.

I use my old Cat butt seat and pedestal in back. It's threaded, but the threads don't engage. It just sits in the hole. Im not sure if the threaded portion is smaller or just not long enough?
