    Lithium Ion Charging

Thinking about replacing my current ignition battery with a lithium Ion battery. Wondering if my 460 Dualpro charger will work with this?

You'll want to address that with the battery manufacturer.

You can have it reprogrammed. If you get relion batteries they should throw in a new charger.

Do you mean 460 minn kota charger?

Relion lithium will work with any charger on AGM setting, which the 460 MK does have.
To get full life and power from the batts, a lithium charger is best.

I don't believe they are doing the free charger anymore.

    It's a Dualpro with 4, 15amp banks.

I talked to Relion today and the guy told me I should be fine with my existing charger as long as it wasn't set for gel batteries.

Relion took good care of me. 4 batteries and the charger all in one purchase.

This thread seems comes up every month with conflicting replies as again seen in above posts.

Why not do like the other battery manufacturers and just openly post the price of the Lithium batteries for all to consider and state whether the needed special charger is included in the price or not?

If the free charger is a special lithium only charger needed to get the proper full life out of the battery why give it away to some buyers but not to others?

the charger supplied with relion is not a special charger, it has simply been reprogrammed by the manufacturer. you can send off the charger you already own and have it reprogrammed. relion will provide a free charger is you buy a full set but not a single battery

Is the above charger properly sealed.....the indicator windows appear in the photo to be absent

What is the link to a price list and the mention of a free charger?

Troy, you have 3 batteries total? So, you have a 24v trolling system? Have you ever experienced any loss of power with the lithium after a full day fishing? I'm considering switching myself. Thanks.

yea i have a 24 v system. I have not. they stay strong the whole day unlike my agm's. i got the 100ah batteries and i barely put a dent in them after an 8 hour day. cool things is they charge in under 2 hours after all day fishing

I understand the savings in weight with the lithium batteries but I don't think the charging system on the big motors are set to charge these properly. My understanding is they charge to 14.5 volts and the lead acid 13.6. Would this hurt the lithium battery to under charge them all the time?

The charging system typically puts out 14.2-14.7V max regardless of what battery is hooked up, with the voltage going down to the low 13s as the battery charges.

That's the benefit of lithium technology is that you have no power loss until they reach the maximum reserve capacity and then they shut off and you have no power, which is why it's critical to install the correct Ah rated batteries.

Getting someone to answer the phone, or call you back at Relion is a challenge.
