Personally I wouldn't want mine directly wired.
I unplug my Motorguide as soon as I'm getting off the water.
I also never charge my batteries while the TM is plugged in.
May want to post this in the Electrical/Wiring/Trolling Motor fourm on the main page.

When I installed my MK terrova I took the plug off the Original MK and wired it to the new one .but it didnt last 2 trips
It started to melt the plug so neatly cut the plug off and crimped on two ring terminals and screwed them to the receptical with the boat wiring so my 24v receptical is still there powered but the MK has direct power . Most newer boats have an assessory relay my system doesnt apply power until I flip the main power switch on the console which powers everything, graphs,Troller, etc.

I cut off the end of my Fortrex, installed the ring terminals at the desired length, and reused the plug that was on the end of the Maxuum 70 that came with the boat.
