    46,000 Snow Geese

That's how many the DNR thinks are at the Goose Pond in Greene County.

Like nothing you have ever seen when they fly. Pretty well horizon to horizon

Don't think they are much of a problem. This is the first year I've ever seen one in Indiana.

Bill, if you've never been to the Goose Pond, it's worth the drive. Big Sandhill Crane population at times too. http://www.in.gov/dnr/fishwild/3094.htm

I've seen the sandhill cranes up at the Jasper/Pulaski game preserve. Thousands of them.

They are a problem in their breeding ground and summer range. They are literally eating the tundra to death in some areas.

they aren't the same as those permanently live in or near housing additions? they have done nothing but polluted everywhere they walked on.

Probably not snow geese, at least in Indiana.

Those aren't snow geese. They are probably some type of domesticated species. Like the type you might find on a farm. There are several of those in a local park. They hang out by the pond naturally. They are a nuisance.

They aren't the farm variety. These are what I'm talking about. I believe they're also protected by the migrating waterfowl law. I don't understand why since they don't migrate, live here permanently and everyone hate them.

Lance those are just Canadian geese, probably resident birds. There is a expanded season for resident birds, at least there was. I think they may have just made the season longer.

I didn't know they couldn't fly for about 3 wks. That would explain why they walk across roads and become road kills.

I had never seen snow geese in Indiana until this week. I saw this thread when it was posted and thought cool something else to hunt. Then day before yesterday I was working in Lafayette and saw a small flock of a couple hundred.
