How do you know your Tach is accurate?

I made a speed run this past weekend and got upto 68.1 mph GPS heading into a stiff wind, I know there's more speed available, when I looked down at my tach, it was around 5k rpm's, this is obviously not accurate, how can I test it?

At work, we use a "Tiny Tach" that has a digital readout with a cable that has a clip to attach to our spark plug wires. This is how we calibrate our engine test stands. It might work on an outboard also.
