    2005 optimax 225 water leak

    Hi all
Got a 2005 optimax 225 and have water leaking from the rear where the power head bolts onto the leg. At idle it just drips out but at speed it sprays up under the cowling onto the electrics. I've been told there is no gasket for that area but I can loosen the bolts to create a gap and put marine grade sealant in the gap and 're tighten bolts. Is this correct or is there something else I can do.
    Cheers Craigo

Every merc I have worked on had gaskets between any two parts of the powertrain. IE gasket between exhaust plate and engine block, gasket under exhaust block. I always found that was the most time consuming part of any repair, cleaning the gasket surfaces before reassembly. Are you sure that everything is tight? IE the bolts
    that hold the powerhead on?

Definitely a gasket. Special one that DOESN"T use gasket sealer. If powerhead is removed, you must scrape EVERY BIT of old gasket in order to seal perfectly. If not, it WILL leak. Don't ask me how I know

Thanks guys. Bolts are tight. I will need to take it to a mechanic. To much for me.
