How long should my trolling motor be?

Looking to get the ultrex but my boats in storage, any of you know how long it should be for a 99 187 elite?

I'd go with the 52" and it should be just right for those really windy days... unless you fish in the ocean, then get a 60". If you only fish flat water then the 48" would prob work for you.

I've been using a 45" for about 4 years now and have not had a problem, even in rough water. I still have about 8" sticking up above the bow. Any longer and it becomes an issue getting the tarp on. I have a garage now, but the first couple of years I had my Terrova I barely got it under the Dean's cover, and even then I had to use the quick release plate so I could slide it back a bit.

I upgraded trolling motors on my old 187 and went from 45 to 52. The bow sits high on the 187, so on a windy day the 45 bobs in and out of the water. The 52 inch shaft solves that problem.

I run a 1993 DCX 191 and I have a 48" shaft for 95% of my fishing it is great and most of time i run the big Lake ( Michigan ) but sometimes the 52" is nice.

The bow sitting high was what I was worrying about, I was thinking a 52 might be the best options thanks for the replies everyone!
