With fish? Probably not much over 75 feet unless there are a bunch of big gills. But you should be able to see the beds over 100 ft on the range. I don't panfish too much, but I usually have to be fairly close to see them.

This is the only screen shot I have of spawning shellcrackers. They were at least 50 yards from the shore

I don't fish for panfish so most of the time my SI range is set to 50'. If these beds were with a 100' setting, they would be twice as small:

Some bluegills in and around beds:

    Thanks Wayne.
Looks like 60-70 ft is probably max.

    Should I use 455 or 800 KHz ?

455 kHz would have the best distance coverage when shallow. 800 kHz will give you the best detail if the beds are close enough to the boat.

I'll post a couple of 1200 kHz screen shots I took yesterday in a few minutes when I saw some spawning bluegills.

Ha so that's what those are..... I just fished yesterday with my new 9 gen 2 mega and saw that on the screen. Had no clue what those could be. Thought maybe it was waves in the sand with leaves filling in the voids. Wow mega Is awesome........
