Depends on year. In cold winter i can get 60-62. In summer it drops down to 56-58. That' no jp and me, 1/2 tank and tackle. No putting a jp on it will void the warranty on the hull, just to let you know.

Thanks fishin couillon - are you tracking the speed w GPS? Reason i ask is that when i am looking at the speedometer on board...it is showing over 55mph but when looking at the Lowrance 522, it is only reading 50 at best mostly just under.

I usually run with a 1/2 tank as well...i sure would love to get the speed though

man what prop are you running and what RPM's are you seeing?? 50mph is way slow, you should be able to run around the 60 mark at factory settings without a jackplate.

With a 23M you should be able to spin somewhere around 5800+ RPMs at the factory settings, and at that you should be seeing at least 58mph. Find out your RPM's and get back with us. Being that you are running 10mph below what you should be has me wondering if either your GPS doesnt read right, or possibly your not getting full throttle. Do you have a hotfoot? If so possibly its not letting your throttle open up all the way, have seen guys have that problem on here before.

Re: Top Speed Suggestions Skeeter SX190 150 Yamaha (Skeeter Jay)

I had a 1999 SX186 with a 150Vmax which is the same boat. I was running a Michigan Wheel Rapture prop 141/4 X 21 and I was getting mid to high fifties out of it gps, rpm was around 5500 not 100% sure though as it was a couple of years ago. The spedo would read around 60, but they are never right. This was with two HUSKY guys and 1/2 to 3/4 full of gas. Another guy on the circut I fish has the same boat as I had and he is running around the same speed, so something doesn't seem right.

I get about the same numbers out of mine. On a cool day she will turn 6 grand easy (23 pitch prop) 62 gps When it was warm 5800rpm an 58/59mph gps.half tank and all the fishing gear.

Re: Top Speed Suggestions Skeeter SX190 150 Yamaha (JeffSX190)

I'm like the others, see what the rpm's are first. That's the same prop i'm running. So somethings not adding up. When i first got mine, had a gps and was running it after breakin, i was not getting the speed either. i was going according to my R's. Check the hot foot out in line with the carb "butterflies". I figured out that is wasn't going full throttle but yet i was pushing 6K's to easy. It boiled down to that my rmp gauge was way off. End up getting it adjusted and everything was right after that.

Re: Top Speed Suggestions Skeeter SX190 150 Yamaha (fishin couillon)

Thank All who are pitching in on this one, i really appreciate the insight by the way

I will get the rpm's next time out...might even be this afternoon if i can figure this work thing out...and let y'all know

I am not running a hotfoot but would like to put one in soon (i have been saying that since i got it over 2 years ago) and yes, i do beleive i fall into the "Husky guys" category as well

Another quick question - any thoughts on what might be the case if rpm's are low for example or not getting full throttle? I cant tell you how killer it would be to get that speed!!!

    Thanks again

Re: Top Speed Suggestions Skeeter SX190 150 Yamaha (strainbo)

several things it could be... probably the best case scenario would be something wrong with your shifter/throttle cable not letting you open the butterflys up all the way. Does your prop have any damage? this could possibly create a problem. Also, I dont want to say it, but maybe somethings going on internally with your engine? This could be something as simple as bad plugs/wires or worse. Just too many variables to really tell you. Find out your RPM's and get back with us, we can help you at least eliminate some of the possibilities.

First, I believe that putting a jack plate on a Skeeter SX model will void the warranty, so don't do it without checking into that.

I run a zx 190 with vmax 150, manual jackplate, if conditions perfect I can hit 64 (speedo), have a friend that runs a sx 190 with vmax 150, he says he has hit over 60 on speedo

Re: Top Speed Suggestions Skeeter SX190 150 Yamaha (strainbo)

I have an 04 Combo with no jackplate and I spin a 25 M. Most of the time with a tournament load I can hit 60 (gps) at 5600 rpms. On a good day, I have hit 63 (gps). I seem to be one of the few spinning a 25.

It looks like the ball is in my court and i will check the rpm's ASAP and get back to y'all. My prop is not damaged so i dont think thats it and i guess we will see.

    Thanks again!!!

Re: Top Speed Suggestions Skeeter SX190 150 Yamaha (magic)

Magic, the speedos don't work great. At WOT, my speedo is pushing 66. But then i put a GPS and it slowed me down to 60.
I would like to try a 25M prop to see what i can get.

I hope everyone is doing well

Took the boat out today and hit 52 mph - only 5600 rpm's at best

rpm's were inconsistent and ran about 50 avg - - i was really pushing it today but could not break 52...

Again, i appreciate any insight or suggestion y'all might have

    only 2 keepers today btw

Re: Top Speed Suggestions Skeeter SX190 150 Yamaha (strainbo)

I would have expected another 250 to 300 rpm from your combination. My first thought would be to check that the engine is obtaining full throttle.

Is your 150 an HPDI, or just the regular Vmax?

Re: Top Speed Suggestions Skeeter SX190 150 Yamaha (PSM207)

Like PSM207 said your rpm's should be higher than that. Are you getting full throttle?? You should be able to turn 5800 with no problem.
