I use the tow mode on my dodge 1500. Not a real issue unless its shifting up and down continuously. The tow mode takes the stress off the transmission so it is not constantly shifting up and down. Let's your engine do most of the work. At least that is how I understand it works. It will still go into highest gear when you are cruising on the highway. Not a huge difference in gas consumption.

I bet it changes shift points and firmness as well. Push the button it's there for a reason.

Yup. Use it. It makes it not so hard of a pull. I used to have a Silverado with the 5.3. Now i have a ecoboost f150. Both towed better up hills with the tow button on.

I use it on my 00 Silverado to pull a tr21 and my skeeter before. I also pull it out of overdrive to keep it from hunting between 3rd and overdrive in these Kansas and Oklahoma hills. I actually think it improves mileage on mine since it is not "lugging" the engine at lower rpm's when the torque convertor is locked up.

I have a 2015 Silverado 4x4 5.3, and I tow north into the Adirondack mountains almost every weekend during the fishing season. I use tow haul anytime I am on the highway or traveling on steep grades etc.. I don't use it when I am towing around town, the tow haul mode assists in braking on steep grades, down shifts much like a big rig. Eliminates the constant shifting or hunting for years.

I duck hunted in December and one of the guys staying at the lodge was one of the engineers that worked on that Ford-GM transmission partnership. I asked him how often I should use tow haul mode. He said "anytime something is on the hitch".

Agreed, but I usually don't use it if I am going five minutes down the road. Every other time I do. Can't hurt, what is what was designed to do.

I have a 2005 Silverado with a 5.3 and 3.23 gears and a 2003 TR-21. Any time my boat is on the hitch, I'm in Tow Haul mode. I wish I had 3.73 gears. That would help a lot.

Use it. Delays the shift points.

^^^^^ Astyle is dead on! Takes a ton of pressure and slippage away from trans. Transmissions like to "hit" hard into the gears, "sliding" into a gear is really hard on the clutches.

Use tow mode and shift from drive to manual. Recommend setting it to 5th in a 6-speed tranny (4th if it's really hill), 3rd in a 4-speed. You'll save some wear-n-tear.
