There are already lots of pros running the Ultrex and taking advantage of its features. I have had an Xi5 for over a year and the pedal sucks now as much as it did day one and I use it a lot. There is no way anyone has as much boat control with the Xi5 as with a cable steer when navigating thru cover, etc. My local boat shop rigs boats for a lot of west coast pros and every one of them has a Ultrex on it.

Well if the pros aren't using it ... really

Long time MG customer and fish tourneys and even tried the MG electric steer years ago and my current unit was MG X5. Broke down and bought the MK Ultrex and ran it through the paces and fished heavy current at the nuclear hot hole with spot lock and all I can say is WOW! I fish off shore ledges and used follow contour at 1.5 speed due to light winds with drop shot and covered 2 mile stretch and WOW! I do a lot of in and out of dock fishing and in 30 minutes got real use to the pedal, WOW! IMHO Great Buy!

What does that even mean? We are going to take your word over a Pro's? Have you ever seen Motorguide Pros Kevin Van Dam,Casey Ashley, Tommy Biffle, Brent Chapman, Jason Christie, Boyd Duckett, David Dudley, Edwin Evers, Todd Faircloth, Shaw Grigsby, Gary Klein, Chris Lane, Aaron Martens, Mike McClelland, Ish Monroe, Derek Remitz, Skeet Reese, Dean Rojas, Scott Rook, Mark Rose, Gerald Swindle use an Xi5 in a tournament? You don't think Motorguide would give them an Xi5 if they wanted one? Why is that? It's because it sucks at boat control when not using the GPS features. Look at how many Xi5 owners complain about the pedal. Have many complaints have you heard about the Ultrex? Like I said, Motorguide better have something in the works.

Ok you got me motor guide will be out of business in a week.
I don't have a problem with the Ultrex your not following my posts.
Your to busy defending the motor I'm not complaining about. All I said was I like the pedal and it has every function the ultrex has. That I wouldn't not swap for that.

I don't see MG going out of business but I agree they wil have something soon. I have been a loyal MG user for 20 plus years. Only TM I like better than my Tours were the Old OMC trolling motors. I have made the switch. I also notice Gerald Swindle new boat has one on it as well. As much as he is shallow water fisherman if he made the switch he has to believe in it. Remember his moto Keep It Simple Stupid.

I don't think they are going to g out of business. I love my Xi5 most of the time. Most of the time I am offshore and in the wind. When the bite is on the bank flippin tules is where it gets tough. I'm defending the benefits of cable steer at those times, not the Ultrex. And countering your claim that the Xi5 is just as good as a cable steer but maybe your are way better with the Xi5's pedal than most of us. There are obviously a lot of people out there that want what the Ultrex offers. There were threads talking about what people wanted in a future TM and Minn Kota responded. I would prefer to stay with Motorguide but I will switch if there aren't any announcements..

BTW, I have used an Ultrex.

I've actually though about how I may be better with the pedal than some.
I even posted it in a thread last year.
I run machines with foot pedals all day. I'm really a MinnKota fan as I didn't like my last motor guide at all.
I really wanted to go with the Ulterra.
the difference in the spot lock and the fact I have hds units made me try the xi5 and am very happy with it.
I would like to try the ultrex and the new Ulterra as I'm sure there great motors.
I've used their older spot lock,I'd like to see the improved version.
Either way for anyone that hasn't had a chance to use this stuff it's nothing short of awesome.

I was with MG for 27 years and just now switched to a MK.

I forgot to mention another thing that made me switch...MG comes out with the X5 to replace the Tour and uses more plastic especially in the pedal. But most importantly, Lowrance partnering with MG for linking them together, MG brings out a motor totally disregarding the fisherman who may have a spotlight scan and makes no provisions for a retrofit kit to use the postion sensor on the new X5 pedal. Now Lowrance is giving away a 500.00 transucer trying to get us to upgrade to a gen 3 and it's a useless transducer for what it was intended for if you own one of the new mtotrs.

You will never see a professional fisherman with one of the MG or MK all electric motors on their bows because they would be handicaped not being able to run another transducer such as stucture scan, panotptix, 360 etc. because there's no logical way to run the transducer wires up the shaft. And quite frankly, I highly doubt the motor shaft (in the stowed postion) could withstand the pounding those guys give their equipment in a season.

TMG this is not directed at you nor am I challenging you in any way, just discussing opinions.

"It's a testament to their equipment as well. Herren and Palaniuk both have MinnKota Ultrex trolling motors. They come with a "spot lock" that allows them to stay in one spot. With three and four footers rolling in, they aren't fighting to stay on their spot. They get to just fish. Pretty impressive, especially when you consider Herren was able to lock down and catch more than 100 pounds of smallmouth on Friday."

I came up with pretty clever way to mount my foot pedal in my Z9 tray without cutting my deck. It doesn't fit all the way to back of the tray but that's ok because it leaves the drain wide open. First I completely removed the power plug and direct connected the power supply leads with stainless steel nuts and bolts and insulated for protection. (How many times does anyone unplug the trolling motor after use anyway) I cut a piece of treated 2x4 and cut it down to 2-3/4" wide and left the width the same (1-3/4). I simply pushed the pedal as far back towards the stern as far as possible and place the modified 2x4 under the toe of the pedal. And fastened everything down with stainless screws. This of course tilts the toe end of the pedal up slighltly. The slight tilt actually made it much more comfortable to operate versus laying flat. I also slightly rounded the edges of the 2x4 and wrapped it with marine grade carpet. It looks factory and it was very easy to do.
Would u be able to post a pic of the pedal In the tray? I have a Z7 and wanted the Ultrex without having to do a cut out.
