Help with towing capability for '06 200 XL

    Hey, guys,

    I have a '06 200 XL with an Etec 225 H.O. - the trailer is single axle.

Can I pull the boat with my wife's 2015 Ford Explorer Sport (V-6 3.6L twin turbo). I've looked in the Ford manual, but it's not going to help me if I don't know what the weight of the boat.

    I have the typical bass-fisherman's loadout; 20 - 30 rods, 10+ tackle boxes...

The furthest lake I would fish is about 20 miles from garage to lake. Any insight would be helpful and appreciated.

Yes it will tow it no problem.

Just make sure your trailer brakes are up to par.

I believe you are looking at a towing load of between 3000 - 4000 pounds total. You can probably tow it but I bet you won't like it. I used to tow an 18 ft Winner with a Ford Explorer (tall one) and it towed the boat but I could feel the boat moving around behind the truck. I much prefer towing with my 1/2 ton truck.

Make sure your hitch height is set properly especially since it's a single axle trailer.

I had a 92 Explorer back in the day and it towed my fish'n'ski horribly, check your manual carefully.

Id be very careful they are only meant to tow about 1500 lbs and the brakes on those things arent the best in the world for stopping when sometnhing is behind it.

I have the same boat and wife has the same truck. It will tow it but there is no way I would use it on a steep ramp that we have around here (Center Hill or Dale Hollow). If your ramps are not steep you should not have any trouble as long as the trailer brakes are good.

I would not do it without your vehicle brakes and trailer brakes in good condition.

I used to tow a 18' Javelin with a Ford Ranger 4x4, it would do it, but didn't like it. The only way I would unload it was in 4x4 and 1st gear. The boat WOULD drag the truck down the ramp.
