    Vmax 225 3.1L 2003

    Hey y'all,

im looking at a boat with a 2003 vmax 3.1L 225 on it. I have little to no experience with a vmax like this. I was looking for some advice on this motor. How reliable are they? What should I look out for? Any advice would be great. Thanks in advance!

I have the same motor and year but a 200hp. Knock on wood I have performed basic maintenance on it and no problems. I have 180 hours on the motor.

With proper maintenance, the big block OX-66 series are some of the most reliable 2-stroke outboards ever made.

Yep. Just sold my 02 and it still has never been rebuilt. All i ever did was basic maintenance. Theyre also extremely easy to work on

I had some issues with the 02 sensor mostly due to cleaning instead of replacing....once I figured out that cleaning once you have a problem really does nothing its replace time.....
