Want to use some of my bass lures for redfish...

...and trout. I know I'll need to change out the hooks. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the reply. Any suggestions for replacing treble hooks on hard baits?

I would not worry too much about the hooks for a little fishing. rinse the baits in freshwater when done.

The galvanized hooks that come on some salt water baits never look very good or sharp to me. I would keep your freshwater hooks on and rinse well in fresh water when you are finished fishing.

Most any hardbait will work. Rapalas, bangolures, Zara spooks, chug bugs, most any cranbait.

I fish for snook more than I fish for bass and 95 % of the lures I use are bass lures. Fish them the same way except a little faster retrieve and at the point in the retrieve where you would normally give the lure a slight pause just speed it up for a turn or two of the reel handle.

Darn near any freshwater lure will catch inshore fish. No need to change hooks, at least until some redfish start bending the hooks! :-)

Used to catch a lot of reds flipping boat docks with jigs for bass. It would be one hell of a thump and battle getting them out from under a dock.

You'll bend them if they are thin wire or size 6 or smaller. Just buy a box of better hooks in a size 2 or 4 to replace them once they bend. Fish them as is until then.

A tip: a Manns Baby -1 is a redfish killer over grass.

Swimming Jig with paddle tail trailer. Swim then kill with a few pops on the bottom, repeat.

For Curl Tail Grubs and Worms
Gama 2/0 or 3/0 round jigheads 3/8-1/4 weight.

About all you need to catch reds/trout/flounder all year round.

Have had a few caught on spinners and chatters but that bait will not hold up to the punishment a good sized Red inflicts.
