    Skeeter Set Up Question ZX175

I am completely redoing a 1994 ZX175 Skeeter, Carpet, Seats, Powerhead, all Wiring, Gauges and building a custom Alum. Dash something like a Gambler. I am wanting to know what size Jack Plate are you guys using on this boat, I was considering a 10 inch is this too much? By the way it has a 1993 2.5 mercury EFI. Thanks

I also wanted to tell everyone how great this board is!!

I would start out with a 6" JP and see how it performs. You can always add 2" or 4" spacers on the 6" JP. I recommend hydraulic steering.

Late model Skeeters are factory equipped with Slidemaster JPs.

Re: Skeeter Set Up Question ZX175 (JohnKTKim)

Well I might have screwed up? I bought a Paralift JackPlate and I had a 150 EFI that had a hole in it.... , So I found a 200 EFI with 10 hours on it, I am putting it togethor now, I am really anxious to see how this is going to perform!! It Might really suck but atleast I can say I tried!!!???? I was hoping someone had a Paralift on a skeeter, I looked for a 175 and had no luck as far as that goes I would have bought a 150 but the 200 came up and I can hide it in sheeps clothing and I said what the heck, it will be fun for a little bit... I cant wait to see how it runs, I am completely redoing the whole boat, interior, gauges, motor, electronics, pretty much everything except the hull. I am even putting a polished alum. dash i it.. I need too post some pics????

Re: Skeeter Set Up Question ZX175 (skeeter166)

they say a ZX175 with a 175 would run like 72 or 73?? I am not sure, I have never had a Skeeter before, I am hoping with the Jackplate set-up right and the right prop after tuning that I can get 78 out of her?, I might be dreaming but its a dream to look forward too!!

I bought the boat right!! thats why I am doing all this to it.., I just cant wait until its all done....

Re: Skeeter Set Up Question ZX175 (markiebud)

You'll need a 10" or a 12" plate on the ZX175. Get you a 25p Tempest and run it around 2 1/2"- 2 3/4" below pad and you will see speeds around 67-69 light loaded and around 65-67 with a partner. My fishing partner has a '94 ZX175 with a late model Merc 175 EFI and I have helped him play around with his and thats about what his numbers are. I have seen him run just over 71 in it with my 26p Predator Eagle on it in the dead of winter, but that Predator just isnt a good all around prop, but it sure has the top end! Those older ZX's are pretty fast, but like the Starfires, you'll have to drive the thing. Have fun, be careful in it and keep us posted on what you find out.

Re: Skeeter Set Up Question ZX175 (markiebud)

72...73 and maybe even 75 on a perfect day with a perfect setup and no load....realistically...low 70's lightly loaded and 65 to 67 with a tourney load....thats pretty much what I get on a consistant basis....I have a 6" plate and the turbo I run likes to be deep....I gain RPM and lose MPH the higher I come on the plate...been looking for a older model Tempest to buy but have not found the right one yet....I went through mine when I bought it a couple years ago...its an old team boat...new seats, carpet, controls, cables, tires, wheels, brakes, electrionics, trolling motor, and on and on....the transom had been replaced before I bought it so that was a plus....I also enclosed the space on front of the windshield for more tackle storage...I have been impressed with mine...it looks good and runs good.....

I have a 94 ZX175 with a merc 175hp. I have a 25p Tempest plus and am running 61-62mph. 4" jackplate. This thing really needs hydraulic steering as it's harder than hell to steer. Fun little boat though.
