Nope, side by side. There's a built in ice chest in front of helm that's why it looks like one rod box cover is longer, which it is. I use utility boxes instead of tackle box and keep them and anchor light in shorter box. Long Rod box will take 7'6" rod no problem. Going to knock the end of one, getting an 8'
