Mercury 225 HP Optimax -- Oil Question

I have been using Optimax oil since I purchased my boat (2007 Mercury 225 Optimax). I buy it in bulk so the oil is around $25 per gallon. I have a chance to purchase 12 gallons of Quicksilver Premium Plus synthetic oil from someone that recently sold their boat. The oil is still in the original containers and is only about 1 year old. Can / should I switch over to the Premium Plus Synthetic?

Please see the Forum Announcements- and be sure to provide the REQUIRED info. Thanks!

Optimax/DFI oil is the CORRECT oil for your engine. "If it is not available Premium Plus can be used".

Premium Plus is compatible... though it's additive package is not quite as well suited for fishing use.

Moving thread to the correct (3L) forum.
