    Question Dog Names

Adopting a one year old male black lab and going to rename him (Ollie Boy is his current name)

Looking for suggestions...he will be trained to retrieve ducks and find pheasants....

    Lets hear some names!

so far I got Merc, Croix or River.

    UPDATE:

He is a great dog and loves the boat and critters....and shoes

I kept his name as Ollie as he responded to it so well.

Here he is on his first boat ride ever last week!

This is the chance for BBC to name an animal....maybe I will take top five - ten names after a couple days and create a poll?

My camp neighbor has a black lab named Hunter. Thought that name is appropriate.

Good on you for adopting a shelter dog... handsome pup.

Does he respond to his current name? If so, something that sounds very similar would be the way to go (i.e., 'Rollie Roy')... you've got a bit of an uphill battle ahead there. Same with training him for your intended purposes... Not at all impossible, but more difficult than starting a younger dog.

Either way, best of luck with your new pal.

And I got to name the parakeet TWEET and the Sun Conure Tango. every critter except for the male sheltie was females.. Best Dog we ever had was Dolly female Sheltie < smartest one ever . now just the cat and a dumb ass female Boston Terrier she named tilly, as the Boston Terrier she had way before named tilly, was snake bit in Texas out by the Barn.. You pick a name, watch the dog for a day or two, you'll come up with an appropriate name. Good luck with the training, he looks like he is very attentive. Have you had him in the water yet? Or tested him to see if he is birdy? Have fun, nice black lab.

Yes it will be much more difficult, winters are long here though and I just bought my own house in a new area so I don't have tons of firends/family close (lots of free time to work with him every day). and he wants to learn real badly and wants to please real badly (two good traits) he responds well to ollie boy as well.

Neither only met him briefly and picking him up in a week. If he has no interest in birds or is very timid around guns (as a rescue dog who knows) I won't push him and he can just be my buddy. Won't be the end of the world for me..if he responds well I'll work very hard with him to make a decent hunting dog out of him.

That's what we did with out last adoptee. She was 10.75 years old. Her name was Geannie. I hated thst name so we called her Ginni. Sounded close enough and she responded well to it.
