    Vance mfg Jackplate JPL4500PP

Any experience with the new Vance jackplate JPL4500PP? What makes it a supposedly higher performance jackplate? I am looking for a jackplate with a 6" setback on my 2003 Ranger 185 VS with 150 HP Opti. I've never had a jackplate on this boat.

Rapid Jack is the best manual plate I've ever used, or seen. No drawbacks on it whatsoever. I usually let things prove themselves out a little while before I listen to "bestest" claims.

I have one it works.. not sure about high performance..its a jackplate it serves a purpose to raise and lower your motor easily and make fine tuning a breeze. I also have there holeshot plate. It is a good jackplate at a good price point.

I've had 3 of their plates. Nothing at all wrong with them.

I hope you didn't buy this JP already, since I had 1 on my 02 Skeeter 19' with 150hp Yammie running 25p and it kept getting torqued out of square by locking bolts not holding the slide in place. I called Vance and asked for specific torque, and I was told 55-60#. They even sent me new bolts, but didn't help. Set it to where I needed for best set up, and I drilled a 1/4" hole for a split lock pin. Best manual I found is R&R Design Slidemaster, or go with a TH Z lock almost as good. BTW, your boat already has a good amount set back by transom design, so you may want to try bringing it up 1 hole, which = 3/4" and watch your water pressure and RPMs.

I've got a 6" Slidemaster on a Stratos 285 ProXL with 150 Johnson. No troubles and very easy adjustment process.

Yea, Slidemaster is the best manual by far, with Atlas and Bob's for hydro with a gauge for your height. I don't run skinny water so 10" Slidemaster manual will do dandy on my Snake 201 DC Mercury 225EFI worked.

Best manual and easiest to adjust is a Rapid jack.

Ive got one on my Ranger , it does exactly what it should … easy to adjust , stays rock solid , never an issue …. if you don't want it to slip or move , all you have to do is put larger diameter/thicker washers on the slide bolts .. its obvious when you look at the little thin ones they send with the bolts aren't going to hold well…maybe thats all they could find in stainless at the time ? …… install it with new ones and your golden ... good piece/good price ...

I'm not a genius, but I'd be thinking about my decision if I *THINK* something is good vs the rapid jack that is KNOWN good/better/best. Why screw around with maybe?

I don't know what Hydro-Dynamics Rapid Jack goes for new this days VS TH Z lock or R&R Slidemaster, but price could be a factor if it is a hundred up or down. I just sold an 8" Slidemaster mint for 275.00 shipped.

And a year from now that bound up plate is still a great bargain.

With all do respect, I don't believe the slides would be bound up, since I used the same silicone grease for the sway bar on my Vette bushings.
But, you are right about being a great deal.

I've seen plenty of slidemasters bound up. They aren't nearly as junky as a rite-hite, but they are not without their issues. If you fish lakes with a good amount of lime, they'll get bound up pretty quick.

Im as cheap as anyone, and don't like wasting money on anything, but there are components on a boat I want the very best I can find. Steering components, jack plates/mounting hardware, and props are your most critical components, and the ones that can hurt you if they fail. I've broken several plates, it's not a good day when it happens.
