    Anyone running a Jet?

I'm looking into purchasing a river Tin with a jet. Decided on something at least 16' with min of a 50/35 jet. I see a lot of fully welded boat but can one get away with a riveted boat? Tunnel hull worth purchasing? Any other tips or pointers on what to look for or look out for on a tin with a jet setup?

    Thanks
    Joe

Nothing wrong with rivets as long as it is a quality rig. The problem is most riveted boats are the light duty pond boat style. I offer no advice on jets.

you can use a riveted boat, but they are typically .073 or less. .100 is a good minumum for a river jet. GO with the max horsepower you can. a 60/40 merc jet will produce a much more noticeable amount of power than any 50/35, simply because of the increase in the pump size. I personally wouldnt go with a tunnel on a light boat. I would rather the jet foot hit with the motor unlocked, than a light weight hull hit the rocks.

Thank you! Do they make a foot that is made from a composite type material?

I think Rockproof boats makes a foot out of that UHMW material.

If I wasn't lost, I'd surely know where I was going!

Robbins Marine in Milton and Big B in Marysville sell a lot of jet drive boats and should be good sources of info.

Thank you once again! Those rockproof boats are amazing but i'm sure they come with a steep price tag. They also sell the foot as well....thanks. I have emails sent out but everyone seems to be closed till the new year.

just be warned that you need at least a large pump (merc 60/40 or bigger) to get a UHMW intake. They dont offer them in the medium and small pumps.

I'm running an 18/60 Rhino with a 115/80. Those River Rockets are sharp. I liked the Legend SS, almost got one of those. They had a great deal on a leftover 2014 last year.

I'm still all over the place as to what I want. One part of me is thinking small and light and then the other is thinking larger tunnel hull with minimum 80 jet.

How do you like the 1860 Rhino?

Joe, a lot depends on you and what you want. The flat bottoms will run shallower, just DON'T under power yourself. I kind of went too the extreme ALWELD 18/56 with a 250 here is a pic of it on the show room floor the day I bought it. I bought it from Troutt and Sons in St. James Missouri 1-800-843-9677. Give Joe a call, he sells all over the country and he will be able to help a lot, even if you don't buy from him. 2015-alweld-1856jc_1.jpg

I really like the layout of this boat. It was a simple layout, decent power for the size and a good all around boat. I find a lot of the 25/20 jets on 14' boats but afraid it will be just a tad underpowered.

MSULLY....That boat is the ultimate machine but afraid I would be hotdoggin it and take the bottom right out of the boat. what kind of speed are you getting from it?

I looked at that boat the other day when I stopped at Cowtown to buy some XD100 oil. It looks nice!

I'm running the rig in my signature and love it! Weldcraft makes the hull for Cowtown and then they slap on some Legend SS stickers, but it's the same thing. I went with the 150 due to cost, but there are plenty of guys here in mid Missouri running 250's and even a few 300 Merc's on this type of setup. My rig tops out between 40-42 and a similar setup with a 250 will run low to mid 50's. Before my current rig, I ran an 1852 flatbottom with a 115 Etec. I can't tell any different in how shallow my semi V runs compared to my flat bottom. I've some extremely shallow stuff and the bottom of my semi V looks nearly brand new. My jet shoe has a few bumps and bruises though!

Here's a few pics of it from the day I brought it home.

54 has been my best. Playing with the trim tabs and such.

st041986 that's a nice boat you got. There's a guy on here with one like that, I think his name is Seth. Now that I seen your profile I see that it's you, Sorry!

Yep, that would be me! You were over on tinboats.net while researching your boat purchase too, right? I venture over there every now and then.

I need to take my boat down to Troutt's sometime this winter and have Jeff build a removable flipping deck for me. The crappie bite on LoZ has been good for a while so I haven't wanted to part with my boat.
