1997 z260 trolling motor wiring question

    Hello all.

At the risk of sounding completely clueless, I need some help. I am wating to install electronics on the bow of my z260, but I don't want to pay labor for a shop to do it, and I'm a bit aprehensive about routing the wiring from the battery all the way to the bow. This evening I removed to plate that holds the trolling motor receptical to have a look at what wiring was there. The receptacle wiring has your standard red and black wires, but also has an orange wire that is capped and not running to anything. Is the orange wire hot? In other words, could I run the electronics power off of that wire? I know that I would still need to solve the issue of a ground. Thanks for your help!

Sounds like its another power wire for a 24 volt trolling motor.

I thought on the bow of mine, there was a unused power supply or switch that I attached my finder to, beat the heck outta running a wire all the way back

I didn't see any extra power supply, but I'm going to check again this weekend.

You have any other switches like assesories , tap into that line for your electronics, then electronics be off house battery, and troller off trolling batteries, like it's supposed to be.

I'm not certain, but I believe the extra wire has something to do with a 12/24 volt troller (like the common OMCs of the time). If you're running a straight 12v or 24v troller, only two wires are required.
