    Setup help

I have a 2012 Triton 21 HP with a 300 xs 3.2L. it has a sportmaster lower unit. I don't know how high I need to be running this motor. I am currently running a 25 p brovo xs about 70mph at 5600 to 5800 rpm. I'm being told that I should be seeing speeds at least in the low 80s and some people have even said upper 80s to 90mph. Anyone out there with a similar setup, any advice would be greatly appreciated

Need to know the gear ratio and how much set back. I would start at even and move up till you loose water pressure. Your LU is designed to run above the pad....

I think those folks claiming the 80-90 mph need to put down the bong. 70-72 is about top end on your rig.

    That setup should run! I have a 2010 21hp with a 250ho E-Tec. 10" Hydrofynamics plate turning a 27 Tempest to 6000,and getting 75-76 easy.

The gear ratio is 1.62 to 1. I am pretty sure it is a 10" Atlas jack plate. But with it all the way up my prop shaft is 15/16 of an inch below pad.

You may need to remount your mota to see if you can get it above the pad. Start at even and go up 1/4" at a time till you run out of water pressure or scrub speed. I'm thinkin you can settle in bout an 1" above. That Bravo will wake up when surfaced. May need a bigger wheel too....you'll have to determine that through test and tune. By surfacing your prop you will need to inspect it often for cracks starting.....

When you say wheel. Are you talking about the prop?

This!! I ran my Bullet with that setup, (but had 14" set back on the plate), at 1 3/4" above the pad.

Does anyone think that my boat is too heavy for the sportmaster?

Yes, especially with 1.62 gears. 1.75 gears is what you need in that SM.

I tend to agree but I would do alot of test and tuning first...I know of a Stratos with a stock 250 Merc Sport that will hurt some feelings....

I talked to the previous owner today and he said he was running a 24 p furry about 3 inches below pad over 80 mph at 5900 to 6000 rpm
