    96 javelin 400

I have a 96 javelin 400se with a 96 Johnson venom 200. no jack plate motor is in secold hole from top roughly 4.5 inches below pad. I have an original raker 24 with some cup added running 62-64 depending on day and 5700 rpms but I have no lift. I also have a 24 tempest plus that runs 6000 rpms but only 54-55 mph with same load as raker. should I have cup added to the tempest or get a 25 and try it. I have a 25 renegade also tats 6000 rpms ad 57-58 mph the raker has best top end but tempest has a slightly better holeshot renegade is not the greatest all around. I had a 10 inch highjacker pro jack pate in the beginning and have had the motor height everywhere from 5 below to 2 1/2 below and it runs best with no plate set as is.

Not knocking your rig,but if that's the best it's ever ran then you've had some horrible set ups. A 10" plate was likely too much for that hull, they run very well with a 6" plate. I would get a 6" plate, set at 3" under to start and run a 24 Tempest+. All this is assuming your engine is healthy. They were pretty fast hulls but you are under powered with a 200. Still should run better than it is though.

the tempest plus 24 is the worst prop I have ran on this set up. my motor is very healthy and runs perfect 64 is the best I have seen gps wich is turning the raker at 8% slip. you cant ask for much better. out of that prop. only issue I have is not much bow lift.

I had a new 400 with a 225 Venom. It was a purdy fast hull. 6" plate at 2.75 below best I can remember .....and a worked 24 Raker was the deal.....

That hull needs a lot of lift and a 6'' plate. You should be looking at upper 60s GPS. Try a new Raker 24 or similar. Your existing props could be out of wack so you could get them reconditioned also.
You're to deep currently so get the 6'' JP and start testing.

I drove one of those several years ago with a 200 Rude and no plate. Don't know the prop specs but it was quick as hell and ran mid 60s iirc.

added a 6 inch plate and have been adjusting and best so far is 64 at 5700 wich figures to 8.08% slip. jack plate has added no speed gain at all but the lift is much better. motor is currently 3 below pad if I raise it any higher I gain rpms but loose speed.

It's odd that you gained more bow lift but no speed. Is it possible that you are overtrimming now and causing wind drag? Some hulls will lift so high that they actually slow down at full trim. Which prop were you using with your last post?

Thats not too bad but I think you should be able to get 2-4 more MPH.

If your still running the 24" raker you have 12% slip which is good. Try dropping it 1/4" and test it. You may find that the cup added to the raker isn't really helping it. Don't be afraid to try the renegade prop.

i appreciate the coments guys its still a work n progress Im still running the 24 raker. how do you get 12% slip on the merc calculator it comes out at 8.08 64mph 1.86 ratio and 5700 rpms. if I trim down any it looses speed. I ran boat this morning with moderate load and 2 guys and best I seen was 62.3 in a short run may gain a little more if I wanted to run a long ways. im happy with the speed and handling now with the added lift the boat seems to run a lot better with a load. before the plate two people it would drop to 58-59 witch I believe was from the lack of lift and plowing more water. I have all week off to play with the set up and wheni get the tempest back ill mess with it some more.
