    New member with 1983 question

I am looking at a 1983 17 1/2 ft with 115hp. I have a 1988 176 super v with xr4. Would like to find a site where I can compare specs on boats and if anyone can give opinions on the differences of the hulls ( ride, stability at rest,so on). Thanks for the help!

I think the 176 never changed hulls. 83 or 88 or 90...same hull. Differences would be whether F&S or regular bass topcaps. Ride and stability would not have changed. Is there a reason you would consider going to an older rig? The one you have should be fine unless you have found some bad issues with it.

1983 176 is the same hull as the 1988 176....top cap and options will be different ...as Lea stated..fish and ski or single console or dual console all have the same hull.

The rule of thumb for fuel usage on carbed motors was 10% of rated horse power per gallon per hour at full throttle. The 115 would burn 11- 12 gallon an hour at WFO, the 150 would be appx. 15 GPH.

I would not change boats to get a lower hp motor. Just don't run it wide open all the time. Better the boat you know than one you don't know. You might be trading a good boat for one with issues.

Parts availability and a trained tech for the Zuke would be my biggest concern. It could be the best motor since sliced bread but if you can't get parts for it or someone to fix it when happens to need service what you gonna do then? Just keep your foot out of the XR4 and you'll save fuel.
