    Tankless electric water heater

Any of you guys have one these? Pro's and con's? I'm thinking of getting one and wondering if it would be worth it. Any input or recommendations is appreciated!

I have had one now for about a year in our new house. I love it, especially with several women in the house. You can run hot water until your heart is content. Ours is gas by the way.

I am associated with a church camp. We have a youth dorm that can sleep 100 kids. We had gas hot water heaters and were always running out of hot water. Finally, we put in 3 Rennai tankless gas heaters and we have all the hot water we need. A friend has one on his house and says it's great. I think Rennai developed the technology and others have copied.

Have had ours for about a year (new construction). Another great choice! There is one drawback though; sinks furtherest from heater take longer to get hot water. If it each sink had a 5 gallon reservoir, would be perfect.

I have heard this as well. The advantage is that it isn't heating water constantly, so there is savings by only heating water when you need it.

I didn't realize they were comparable in price to that of standard water heaters. You can get one that can support a 1-bath house for less than $400.

Don't. Almost everyone here raving about tankless is referring to gas models, and they are great. A tankless electric to run a whole house will require 24-27 KW. That's 27,000 watts, 113 amp draw. Your normal residential electric tank heater is 4500W. Prepare to upgrade wiring, breaker box, and possibly run a new service.

If you want tankless, definitely go with gas.

This i looked into them for rentals but they use alot of electricity and just the upgrades for breakers alone is unreal..i think it was 3 or 4 30amp breakers needed most of our houses has a 200amp breaker box and are already almost full.

Now the gas ones are an excellent choice.

I have a Noritz, for about 11 years now. No running out of hot water with 2 women in house. Had local gas company install it when my electric tank got a hole in it. We are in an area with a lot of lime in the water. That said, there is a cleaning procedure you need to do at least every two years or in my area every year. Do not buy the kit that is advertised for about $150 at plumbing supplies. I have about $50 in mine. Go on you tube and there are tank specific videos on how to clean when time comes.

Had a GE gas tankless installed about 4 years ago. The only issue is when i'm doing dishes in the kitchen sink and have the hot water volume low the water goes cold. Have to increase the flow and wait for a minute to get the hot back. No other issues.

Sure. We paid $40 per year to rent a 325 gallon propane tank.

You'll want to make sure you don't run the tank empty, as there is a service charge to bleed the lines and such. Rule of thumb is to call for a refill when it gets down to about 20% left in the tank. You'll want to account for that when you select the size of the tank.

Good idea on hooking a grill to the tank. I've also seen people have lines run for tiki torches and fire pits to where it all turns on with the flick of a switch.
