Go up until you loose speed and/or safe operating water pressure. Then come back a 1/4" and you should be good.

Not sure what my speed is just yet. It starts walking about 65 still learning how to prevent it.

If you keep raising your motor a 1/4" at a time it should a.) tend to chine less b.)you will be able to go faster. Then you will find a height where you either can't run because your water pressure is to low or you go slower than your last height.

Sounds like a plan. Thanks. What I need to do is take all fishing equipment out so I am not tempted to stop and fish.

Only takes a few runs up the lake and back. It might take a while to find the right setting. Start at 3.5 and find the spot.

I am running a worked 27 tempest in the summer and a 26 tempest in the winter. I haven't had the motor out enough to get it completely dialed in. The prop will be back soon but the temps have already fallen so It might be next year till i get here solid. Yesterday i run the 27 up to 79 To windy to run it any faster. I was at at the speed that it was trying to skip every other wave.

Bruce, how's the holeshot with the 29? I realize you're running it for the topend, but I'm just curious about the other.

Not real fast about 6 seconds to be fully on pad and trimming up.

Not too bad considering the prop pitch.

I could run a 30" hoss on my 202/250 IF it was light and dry. I kept it in it's own padded box and used it only under extreme emergencies. It could see mid 80's, but one package of worms in the front box laid it over.

    Thumbs Up

    Made another run this morning
    The numbers
    Water temp 55 degrees
    Engine temp 132
Jack plate set at 3.5 which is 3 inches below pad
One Vent plug than 1 small
3550 rpm and 5-6 seconds to get on plane
single person tournament load 23 gallons gas
    Steering got stiff quick
    """water pressure 16 psi"""
Was able to run up to 81.4 @ 5550
5550 RPM was as much as i could get out of the motor. Not sure what to do to get more but am happy with the set i got. It is amazing how working the prop has also helped in the chine walk. The better it was tuned the better it ran with out the chine walk. @ 66 mph i felt it trying to walk but was gone with a slight left steering turn which has become a common adjustment for me and the new motor.
Josh @ Steve's custom props has been a lot of help,, along with a lot of the members on this forum. I dont think i would have ever gotten it without your help.
The prop i now have. A 27 tempest plus worked to a 26 for cold water and wheather. '
And a 27 plus worked for the warmer water. Both props are balanced and tuned for this boat.
We tried the 27 for winter on a ranger with same set up and it was like night and day for the rig. I beleive he will be in the market for a new 27 .
If i ever get the go pro set up i will post the vidieo.
    Thanks All for the help

Well, like when Forrest Gump stopped his running back and forth across the USA.... Now what are you going to do?

Thanks Bruce! Wish I had never read this thread now. MMosher took me out for a demo ride at last Tournament of Champions, 97 202 B&B, 250 ProXS, 27" Tempest worked by Josh, 10 Bob's Manual @ 3.3”, I also have a Gorilla Hull, best we got 71.2 GPS at 5800 rpm.

I was satisfied with that until I read your story. Now I want more! LoL! Matt said, while holding the wheel with two fingers, that it drove like a pussycat. That was nice to know and a confidence builder as I'm not a real experienced driver.

Your last post didnt mention what size plugs, I have two mediums and one hole open. I was also under the impression that lowering the PTP helped with chine walk a post in this thread mentioned that you should raise to control chine. What was your experience with changing the PTP?

edit: Forgot to mention it was a Tournament load+ and Matt and I are decent sized chunks. I was on a fishing vacation for several weeks and had everything but my fishfinders in the boat.

    Solid 75 would be nice.

Hey Matt, once again thanks for that demo ride/lesson can't tell you how much my confidence improved after seeing what my boat could do. The way you handled that cruiser wake and chopped up water was simply astounding. Dang Bruce is making me curious to see what my top end capabilities could be. Would love a solid 75 loaded. Don't suppose your heading to Toledo Bend for the Spring TOC? I've got some time and would love to revisit Texas to get the bad taste out of my mouth from the last trip. As well as one more lesson before trying 80. Say hi to your father for me, enjoyed dinner, beer and the Champion history lesson.

BigMouth...you RAISE the motor to lessen chine-walk. You must have a good water pressure gauge!
However this is not the "end-all". You definitely need to learn how to drive to PREVENT the walking.
