    Ranger 481vs

    New to BBC..
I own a 1997 Ranger 481vs powered by a 1997 175hp Mariner Magnum 2.5 EFI and a 24p Trophy prop. No jack plate, 3.5 inches prop to pad. I'm only hitting about 57-8 with a tournament load and 2 people. I know Rangers aren't built to be the fastest, is there a way to help my top end, or is that about right?! The Trophy is a smaller hub prop and I'm hitting about 6300rpm's at WOT. I know the rpm's are high, will pitching up help that? I was thinking a 25p Tempest/Fury or a 24p Fury4.
    Any input will help.

Yes....you are heading in the right direction. You should be getting 58-60 tourney load. Maybe 1-2 mph more if all is right. The tempest is a faster prop than the trophy (on your Ranger) and the 25 pitch should lower your RPMs. I've never tried the Fury props.

I ran one for years with a 175efi merc with jackplate.25 tempest prop.61 mph tourney loaded. Please check your rpms but I think you are asking for trouble running that engine 6300.I was thinking the max merc recommended for those engines was 5600.Thanks,good luck and good fishing.

I do not have a ranger but have buddies that do, and I'm pretty sure all of them run tempest props. They carry a heavy load better than the trophy

I have a ProGator w/ Merc 225 EFI which is heavy like a Ranger, changed from a Trophy 24P to a Tempest Plus 25P and went from 63 mph to 70 mph. The Tempest has a lot more lift.

good deal! I ended up getting a Fury 4 24p from Jaco's and it's a pretty nice improvement.. full tourney load at 5800rpm 62mph. Thanks!
