Figured I'd throw this up since these fish were just a rumor to me on brookville, anyone else get one of these out there before? Taped out at 38", around 25-30 pounds

Nice striper. There definitely are some in the lake, but not many anymore.

Wonder why, the lake definitely has the shad population to support stripers. Isn't it the only body of water in the state, besides the OH river where you're allowed to use shad as bait? I'd bet you could catch them by throwing big swimbait or troll with planer boards and big gizzard shad as bait.

A few years after they impounded B-ville the stripers were thick. You could stand on the dam and watch them herd the shad, the water would boil. If you could cast far enough you'd hookup and have a blast. Wonder why they stopped stocking???... Dan

why would they have to stock them? they don't reproduce naturally in that lake?

Another species to fish for, tourism... Same reason they stock walleye, muskie, trout... Plus they're a blast to catch... Dan

Stripers don't reproduce naturally in any freshwater lake. They'll make false spawning runs up the river, (I looked it up, there are a couple very rare places that they will actually have a successful spawn) but the spawn isn't successful in any natural lake that I know of. Saltwater fish that can do just fine in freshwater lakes if there is enough cool/cold water to get into during summer. Believe they used the stripers there as brood stock for the hatchery, know they do for the walleyes that are stocked in the state.

Indiana mostly stocks wipers these days.

Interesting, didn't know the eggs need to float to hatch.
