I've heard nothing but good news regarding the G2. I'd spend the extra money and go with the newer boat.

Also isn't the oil in motor on the g2 which on ho it is in tank in bilge area so maybe total weight really less than 78?

Yes it is and due to it's increased capacity it will last the average user a full year before needing to be added to.

    Strange experience:
    Repowered a very strong running 2007 etec 150 with a G2 150 trax.
    G1 with 17" sst prop
    5300 at 45mph, 54lph 0-30 5.7sec
    G2 with 20" viper
    5500 at 46mph, 43lph, 0-30 6.8sec
Confused as to why the hole shot is a full second slower? This was with i-trim off.

Any ideas, I know there are a lot of variables but all seems like for like - except the G2 std trim down stop pin is in position 2 and not 1.

Is the acceleration slightly less to give better fuel efficiency? This is not the 150Ho.
    Thanks

What's the difference in the gear ratios of the two motors, because the motors are running very different props.
Why would you not move the trim stop pin to the lowest setting?
    What boat?

G2 150 HP gear ratio is 2.17 compared to 1.85 for the G1.

The G2, as a rule of thumb, can run higher on the transom than the G1

A Viper is not always the best prop for a G2, you may find better performance and acceleration with an RX4 or the Raker HO, depending on your boat and set-up

Try timing the acceleration with the trim rod in the bottom-most hole.

When set up correctly, you should notice better fuel economy with the G2.

It's a sealegs vessel, open V ctr console, alley hull. Carries about 550kg in internal motor, hydrolic fluids and wheel/ram structures forward and aft.
Will try tests with trim stop pin in lowest hole.
Motor mounted at 2 3/8" above transom v-pad, direct to transom.
Will see if I can get hold of a raker HO, prop vents may be the answer...

If you had made your deal when there was 10 year warranty available, the G1 would clearly been the choice. But for the size and H.P. rig you're pricing it's obvious you are looking for a great first entry level tournament boat not a hot rod. This 16 model is going to serve you well for 10 or 15 years and if that size boat fits your needs and you keep it nice just re-power it like a lot of us have done and fish on. Save the $ for future up grades in electronics which will come.

This old thread has morphed into another subject.

The vessel weight is around 3800lbs.
The fuel economy is loads better - 11lph at wot and more at cruising speeds, huge difference.
Just the acceleration is a touch slower but still quick for this vessel.
Will try at lowest pin setting and report back.
