Post Fury4 vs. Bravo 1 XS Testing

I was able to run these two props side by side today. I've been running a 25.5 Bravo 1 XS for about a year now on my '15 Z521C (250 ProXS). I wanted to try the Fury4 to see if I could get a little more speed. Purchased one from Rothwell Marine and gave it a whirl today. Since adding dual Talons, I've had a hard time breaking 70mph. I made several runs today, under the same conditions. I'll be making videos later but wanted to share the data from the runs. Same boat, same driver, same conditions, both were 1.5" below pad which is where they seemed to have the most speed:

25.5p Bravo 1 XS Top Speed Run:

25p Fury 4 Top Speed Run:

Found this run at 1.75" below pad...it seems to be fastest at 1.5" or 1.75" below pad (video below):

Butt dyno wise, the Fury 4 felt much better. It had a faster holeshot (was running with no plugs), mid-range felt better and top end was a little better. Lift also felt like it was better with the Fury 4. I'll be back out tomorrow to run it some more.

    Holeshot comparison...
They look pretty similar with the Fury 4 just barely being faster. The Fury4 feels like it has more punch on holeshot and all through mid-range.

    Top speed run...
With the Bravo 1 I could NEVER hit 70 (with dual Talons). The holeshot was awesome, mid-range punch was pretty good. With the Fury 4, I can hit 70 on every run, holeshot seems slightly better and mid-range is better than the Bravo.

All data captured with H2O Export (http://apps.network80.com).

Just out curiosity - I'm a total newbie, so please don't take this as questioning your numbers-legitimately just a guy trying to learn....

On the chart I noticed a difference of about 30 gallons of fuel- is that accurate or is the chart just incorrect? If there was a difference in the amount of fuel, how big of an impact would you expect that to have on speed?

30 gallons has to be a few hundred pounds, right?

That's the fuel % actually....so I would say the difference was about 30% which would be about 16 gallons or 100 pounds? I'm not exactly positive how well the SmartCraft 'sees' the fuel amount, but that would be my guess. Less fuel, less weight, would definitely help speed things up.

What pitch fury are you running? Wonder how it would run on a SHO. Here is a run I made Monday with my 521 and 250 SHO with 25 T1 and no vents, light on fuel. 4 batteries, dual powerpoles. I have not measured the PTP yet but will do that tomorrow. Its at 2.9 on the Bob's gauge.

Nice post Chris! I was actually going to post my experience testing a fury 4 this week but ill do it here. My boat is a 2017 z520c, Mercury 250 Pro xs,twin poles, tournament loaded and 2 big guys. Im 6'5 300 pounds my parter is 250 pounds. First off I love the fury 3 and still do its a very good prop and faster on top than the fury 4. The fury 4 is just an awesome all around prop on this boat. Getting on plane and mid range is unreal with the fury 4 but still very quick on top. I only lost roughly 2 mph if not a touch under on top but I was still running 72 mph with with the fury 4. The handling, holeshot, mid range acceleration is phenomenal with this prop not that the fury 3 was ever bad this one in my opinion is just better on my rig! If Im gonna be making long long runs in a tournament Ill use a fury 3. But for 95 percent of the time I think its a fury 4 for me! Mercury did a fabulous job on this prop!

Started with a 24p Fury 3 (pre Talons), post Talons tried a 25p Bravo 1, 25.5 Bravo1, 25p Fury 3 and this 25p Fury 4. The 25p Fury 3 is the fastest, but holeshot and mid range sucked. The 25p Fury 4 is only 1mph behind the Fury 3 and like Matt said, better in every way, everywhere but top end.

Nice data. I am having a hard time trying to dial mine in here's the dilemma. 2014 Z520C 250 Evinrude HO, 26P fury 3, 2 poles, 4 31 group batteries. 1 pvs hole has a large plug in it.
3 1/2" below pad, 2 guys tourney load.....Hole shot is just ok top end is only 68-70 Gps with 60 degree air temps. running 6100 rpms. My rpms are very high but my hole shot is terrible what else can I do to get the top end up without sacrificing the hole shot and raising the rpms up? I installed the lowrance evinrude interface cable so my rpms are accurate.

Rodney told me you were gonna be testing and that he loved his 4. I currently have a 26 raker that will run 73-74 and 69 loaded heavy, two people but the holeshot absolutely sucks

Excellent information Chris, I'm running a 26p Bravo I XS on my Ranger Z522 with a Mercury Racing 300. Wondering if a Bravo 4 would help with hole shot. Lift is great with the Bravo.

Lift feels even better with the Fury 4. I don't have someone else with me to verify that from outside the boat, but it definitely feels like it pulls harder on lift.

1 3/4" below pad seems to be the sweet spot for mine (dual talons). 1.5"bp seems a little flat and not as responsive (but slightly better speed), 2"bp I have great lift but can't hit 70mph, at 1 3/4" I can hit 70mph every time and the lift still feels great. Still learning it, but that feels best so far.

Videos in progress...probably be late Sunday or Monday..

Interesting that you got that high of RPM's with the 25.5 Bravo1. I had a 26 Bravo and could not get above 5400 RPM's with the same engine and boat you have. My RPM's went up with the Fury 4 compared to the Bravo 1 not down.
    Thanks for the info.

I don't have a ranger but in my 03 stratos 201 pro xl,
    250 vmax 3.1L
    26p fury 4
    68 degree water temp.
    70 degree air temp
    50 Gallons of gas
    Solo tournament load
    350lb driver
    Livwells empty
    3.25" PTP
    74.2 mph @ 5900 rpms.

The holeshot crazy fast out the hole. Best 4 blade I've run yet. Just thought I would share my test.

Just an FYI....... Mercury Smartcraft "sees" the amount of fuel with outstanding accuracy.

Something must be wrong because it was reading 0 for a few seconds then 11.4 for a few.
