    Blazer 190 ProV setup questions

    Hey guys,

I have a 2005 190 proV with an 05 Mercury 200 Optimax. This engine has about 250 hours and has been checked out totally by Don Weed and given a thumbs up. My engine runs great and has good compression.

When I bought the boat it had a 27 pitch Tempest plus and would run out to about 72 tops at 5200 RPM's. I played with the jack plate and the further up I went, the easier it was to drive, but the slower it got. At about 1.5 inches below pad I begin to blowout getting on plane and the top speed would be 67.

I switched to a 25 pitch OT4 4 blade prop and I get real similar results. It runs up to 5350 RPM's and tops out at about 70 MPH GPS. I realize how stories go, but I have talked to several people with a similar setup to mine and they are running 74 to 76 MPH.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I could tweak to get my speed up? I have a 10 inch jack plate installed.

I agree, and I have no way of verifying it. I have had mine up to 72 but no faster.

I'd try going down a pitch or 2. My 25 OT4 turns like my 27 trophy plus. IMO you need a 23 OT4 or 25 tempest. A 25-26 trophy plus should run very well on that hull also.

I run a 2014 190 with a 200 proXs. Fully loaded with me (240lbs) full load of gear and 3/4 fuel, 2 power pole blades. 74mph gps is the best I have seen. It will run better if I go on a diet but...

    it has a 10" Bobs with a 1" spacer. 27p tempest at 5550-5600 RPM.

Note. I run this in a lake with a slight ripple. Not down river in a 5mph current like some numbers out there are not accounting for. So yes it would run almost 80 in a strong down river current with GPS. GPS gives you speed over ground so the current is not accounted for. In that case you a actually are going that fast over ground but you aren't covering anymore water. This is why you can't chase other guys numbers exactly.

My 25 pitch OT4 turns about 200 RPM's more than my 27 pitch Tempest, but it still barely gets above 5400 RPM's. I am in the process of ordering a Trophy Plus in a 26 pitch. I guess I will know soon enough whether I should have gone with a 25 or not. We will see. Once I get it I will test it and report back here on my new numbers.
