    Replacement Windows.

I am getting ready to replace my 27 year old Anderson double hung windows, the new Anderson replacement windows are $621 plus tax each and honestly I have had my fill of Anderson windows, one reason I am replacing them. Can any of you guys reccommend a good high end or mid range replacement window I could use?

I have used Atrium brand for 10 years now...one issue with an install in ten years...it was resolved within two weeks...We install their new construction windows too...nice window for the price if you are looking for vinyl. We also use Windsor brand in clad and in 100% cellular pvc...when the budget allows. If your window jams are in good shape..check out a sash replacement kit option to save a lot of bucks! Windsor has some nice replacement sash kits in clad...do not marry your self to all wood windows...today's wood is garbage and will not last 27 years by any means...good luck getting 10 years if your overhangs are minimal if you choose all wood! www.weilerandmorgan.com...N.E. Georgia remodeling contractor 32 years experience...hope this helps!!! and good luck!

Thanks EDW, sounds like a good place for me to start. My daughter used to work at the VA Clinic at Oakwood, that is a very nice area.

If you have an ABC Supply Co. or a Bradco Supply near you...they carry Atrium and Windsor...at least my ABC Supply does here...probably your best bet would be to visit the manufacture's website to get the closest dealer...I work in Oakwood often and am based out of Gainesville...You will not find either brand at Home Dump or Loweseys...we purchase mainly from distributors with contractor discounts...Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Check out Pella windows. Great products at fair prices. When we bought our house about a year ago, one of the factors that helped us decide was the Pella windows and doors.

Pella makes a good product. I have an issue with them as a professional contractor though. They are many sold at Lowes here where I conduct business. Lowes sells them direct to the public for less than I can but them from direct from Pella...Pella needs to step up to the plate and support it's professionals...other wise, a nice product.

I have worked for Pella as a replacement sales specialist for the past 11 years. With 7 lines (3 vinyl, 1 fiberglass, and 3 wood interior/aluminum clad exterior) of windows we typically can find the right product for your home and budget. Any of the product lines can be installed as a full frame replacement (new construction) or a precision fit replacement keeping the existing frame in place. There are benefits and considerations to install methods as well as the product lines.

Most Pella showrooms are locally owned and not actually owned by Pella Corporation. Lowes is a national account for Pella and Lowes does offer some pretty crazy sales. I'm sure Lowes is working on much different margins than the local branch that has certain value add features as well as the service department to stand behind all of Pella products regardless of where they are purchased.

When we built our lake house in 1980, my cousin received architect's discount and purchased our Pella aluminum clad casement and double hung windows in his name. They've held up extremely well over the years, and are in perfect condition.

But if we had to replace the Pella windows, the new windows would cost more than we built the whole house for.

I've got 17 windows, a 9 ft sliding door, 6 ft sliding door and all new siding from Window World. They've been in for 3 years and no problems (lifetime warranty too).

Check with TomStL on here, he can answer any questions you may have.

Don't over look Marvin windows. They also have another line of windows called Integrity. I put Integrity in my folks place for them back in 1999 and they're still working great. They've got a manufacturing facility in Roanoke, VA for the eastern US.

Replacing windows are great for many reasons which includes energy savings.........HOWEVER, don't think you are going to get a great savings because you replaced your windows. The average is less then 3% in energy savings because of new windows, so don't get carried away with some of these window salesmen that promise you will see so much more in energy savings because their window is built better.........HOGWASH most times.

I had the glass replaced and kept the wood frames saved a lot of money. The glass is double pane and so far they have remained clear . Glass was less than 600.00 for 13 windows plus one picture window 6x4 ft. If the frames are good think of this

Your comments on this forum have been great in the past, and I trust your judgement on windows.

When we built our lake house in 1979, my cousin (the architect) got us a special price on Pella wood windows with aluminum cladding. After 27 years, they're still just great. But if I had to buy them today, they'd cost twice what the original cost of building our 1800 square foot house. They're EXPENSIVE.

Our last two houses have had vinyl windows, and I like them just fine.
