Commodity stainless and carbon Steels are going to have a very difficult time in generating income. Global over capacity of steel manufacturing has pushed the high cost manufacturers to be quite non competitive. Trade agreements will help a bit, but rust belt nations (US, UK, etc) have a serious cost problem. Anytime you have such an imbalance of high supply (producers) and low demand (customers) like we have today, it is going to be a difficult market.
Now specialty metals have a better picture. Much less low cost competition so pricing is more favorable.
Tread carefully. Follow the LME Nickle index to what us happening in the stainless and speciality steel world.
