    2003 Stratos 185 javelin series,expected speed?

Just got a nice unit with 150 Johnson set at 3.25" below pad with 24p Raker.
Heard all kinds of speeds, what can I expect out of this rig, no Jack plate.

Pending load, conditions and driver ability 58-62 GPS...there is way to many variables to throw out an exact correct number.

    Thank, I'm hoping more like 62mph, we can drive anything from 110mph + Allison's, 130mph Stv's and 100+ offshores.
Brother is getting me into bass fishing so actually I guess speed isn't a priority, so I keep telling myself.

My hull is very similar to yours in size(18'9"). With the 150 that I ran for several years I had no jackplate and my motor had a prop to pad of 3.75". My top GPS was 62.8 @ 5500 rpm but that was in perfect conditions. Most days I was more like 60-61 solo and 58-60 loaded heavy. I re-powered with a 150 HO that puts out around 165 HP and also added a 6" jackplate. Current prop to pad is 3.25" and I can turn 5700 rpm. My current new top speed is GPS 64.94 solo in perfect conditions. Most of the time I can run 62 or a little more solo. Loaded I am closer to 60-61. At the time I re-powered I added two Talons. That added about 115 pounds directly to my transom plus a lot of drag. I have never ran my new motor without the Talons but I feel confident I could pick up 1-2 more mph without the extra weight and drag.

Most any boat/motor that is in healthy condition that has 150 hp and is in the 18 ft range can do around 60 if set up properly. You might be able to gain 1-3 mph by adding a jackplate. You also might gain another 1-3 mph by getting your prop balanced and blueprinted. There is nothing wrong with wanting to set your boat up to achieve its maximum performance but if your going to chase speed it will cost $. If your in the neighborhood of 62 solo and 60 loaded then I would not do anything.

    Makes a lot of sense,thanks.
I had it out once and the conditions were really windy and not perfect, plus I had no gps and the tach was way off saying 6600 with a stock 22 Raker @ 61mph on original speedometer, so who knows.
Going to do a GPS run in good condition to get a base line.Either tachs off 500rpm high or speedo is slow 5mph I guessing.
Get 24p redone and labbed too, I'm sure that's probably the prop and up the 23p to ac23p for a spare.

Thanks for the interest put guys.

The most important thing you need to do right now is get a confirmed working tachometer. Second is pay Zero attention to the boat speedometer. There is a few out there that are accurate but for every 1 that is accurate there is 10 that are inaccurate. GPS only to confirm speed. As for the prop there is a ton 18.5 ft Startos boats with Evinrude or Johnson 150 HP that run a 24 Raker. Each individual boat will be different but your boat motor combo has proven it likes to run a 24 Raker. The 22 Raker would be good if you lived in the mountains and ran at high elevations or if you run a extra heavy load or in the dog days of summer. Otherwise a 24 Raker and a 150 Johnson on a 18.5 ft Startos go together like peas and carrots.

I bought one new in 2003 & after break in & a few hours to loosen up it would gps 63 with a 24 raker original & an 8 inch detweiller & 2 people loaded heavy. I did do double break in because my dealer is as good as they come when it comes to these motors & he said it would be faster when it loosened up. It was faster then 4 other identical boats in our local tournaments by 2 mph. Very light load would do 65.

Thanks for the advise guys, ran the boat for the 2nd time fully loaded out fishing and 2 of us 225-250# each with stock 24 raker, 60mph gps @ 5400 w/ 9% slip no Jack plate.
I'm good with that, maybe 62-63 ,no load and labbed prop could be in my future.lol

Your numbers are on par with most other results...as you said you will gain a little when you lighten the load. A jack-plate might be a small gain. You need to ask yourself if the possibility of a 1-2 mph gain worth the cost of a plate...if yes then get one.

Yeah I could gain 1-2 with Jack plate,if you want to go one more step,a low water pick up and raising the motor again and adding 1-2 pitch more prop.
This boat could run 65mph easy.
I have one problem, boat fits in garage by 4", so a 6or8" Jack won't fit.Worth keeping it out of the weather by living with existing performance.

I had the same boat in '04...re-badged as the Stratos 285 in '04. It had the 150 Johnson, with a jack-plate. Running a 24 Raker, I could get 63-65 with a light load. With a tourney load it was 60-62. It was a great boat, and the Johnson was a good motor. Enjoy it. When you want to go faster, get something bigger and more powerful.

your numbers are good...I would not touch anything. As previously said my boat is very similar to yours and we have very similar speed numbers. I ran mine 14 years before I put a jackplate on it and the only reason I installed a jack-plate was so I had something to mount my talons too.
