Lol lol Stop on over, could use a hand hanging the motor
Was on a crazy streak of making stupid mistakes so took a few days off..
Might pick it back up tonight
Anyone knowledgeable on Outboard debug?
This thing is 99%.. gotta get the last gremlins out.
Its got smooth idle, good temps, good water pressure.
Took it out on lake and it feels like its got 10% power when I throttle down to get on plane.. won't rev up
but doesn't stall/ hiccup/ run bad
Would appreciate any direction.
I'm going to look at shift switch, inspect plugs now
Some pics from over the last few weeks
I removed the lower and then was standing there holding it with no way to work on it
Whipped up a quick stand from scrap 2x4..
I set X dim at 3.5" below pad with 1" available adjustment up and a lot down
Motor got full maintenance,
Hydraulic steering bled, thanks to basshawksc for the help on that
Have you replaced the low pressure fuel pumps?
Best information will come from the Mercury forum. Post your model, year, and serial number and you will get the help you need.
i ran into this problem a few years back when i rebuilt my 175efi,i had put one too many zip ties on the wire harness on the ignition trigger, that was keeping it from advancing fully, chased that problem for a month before i found it!
What s up yall
It's Alive!
Lots of shakedown runs and wrenching on the OB.. It was really acting up.
Finally threw my hands up and took to mechanic...
Took him an hour to find I had the oil lines reversed which made it over inject oil into crank case.
Rookie mistake but at least it wasn't starved for oil, and I guarantee you I wont do that twice...
Shout out to BigMuddy for the shop manual - lemme know when you want to get out for some fishing
Will put up some higher quality on-water pics soon.. just getting it running has been priority
That thing looks so good
nice work!

2006 Stratos 294 - 200 Merc Optimax
September update:
Putting in a lot of seat time, just recently really got used to driving with finesse to get the most out of it
Running on a flat river gives great feedback compared to on a big choppy lake!
It runs 68 mph @ 6000 rpm with the 25 Tempest
Mercury calculator states its good for 78 mph with 26.8 pitch
Testing battery locations, setback, height and soon props
Now if the fish would cooperate lol..
Tried a battery setup for the front compartment but it turned out to be too much weight too far forward
It made it run nose heavy and fall forward off the pad
Going to try out 6" setback tomorrw - the factory offset, interested to see how it runs
Should be able to pick final battery locations and setback from that then onto props
Trophy plus.. Fury.. other?
Leaning toward 27 Trophy
Just picked this thread up, nice work. You will know every inch, but, and bolt on that rig. Enjoy
Ran it today with 6" setback, and a tried a few engine heights and battery locations
Felt planted and level but noticeably slower at all rpms, didn't want to air out
Swapping back to 8" setback and then its ready to test props
Looking for a 27 Trophy, anybody got one?
Trying to get it in time for Caesar Creek shootout
Whats up BBC crew - - wanted to update this build thread, kind of got away from me... This Gambler has been a lot of fun, splash it every chance I get.
Did a ton of work on the Merc this past winter.. starter, reeds, injectors tuned, fuel lines, fuel pump, solid mounts, bushings, all gaskets etc etc.
It pulls super hard now from a dig and stepping into it from 40 is addictive!
Actually need to prop up which is kinda what brought me back.
Over the winter also did a bunch of little stuff with the boat just to really dial it in... Foam deadening under the hatches so they sit solid and quiet, new TM mounts, refit the fuel tank so the rear hatch closes proper, trailer tires and bearings - its just an all around solid rig now.
Got a new phone with lots of nice pics buuut they are over the file size for this forum so that is unfortunate.
I need someone to put me onto the fish - still do the best in little ponds from the bank, could have saved a lot of money and hassle lol
Mike,
I'm not far from you and have a few tricks up my sleeve on the local lakes. Let me know if you want to get out sometime.
