    250XS idle problem -- please help

    One of my trip 250XS's has a idle problem at cold startup. It fires right up and then dies after a couple of seconds. This goes on until its warm enough to advance the throttle to a fast idle. After a short fast idle it's fine for the rest of the day - no problem cruising at 4000+ rpms. So far I've changed the batteries(1000mca's) primer bulb, plugs, tracker valve. Fuel is not an issue as all the engines run off same tank with saddle tanks transferring fuel. In scouring the internet this doesn't seem to be an unusual problem but no one has provided a solution. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks Rich

    Rich:

    Welcome to BBC!

    Please see the Announcements at the top of the forum, and provide the REQUIRED info when posting. Thanks!

    Numerous maintenance items can affect idle performance and starting. There are also a number of other possibilities, too.

    Good idea to check the basics FIRST:

    -Compression Test
    -Spark Test
    -Fuel Quality, Delivery, and air/fuel pressure tests *

    * Record results for:

    -At idle
    -Under Acceleration
    -5, 10 and 15 seconds after engine shutdown

    Good idea to provide the results of the above tests... especially the air/fuel pressure tests. Must be ACCURATE results, though.

    I know this is an old post, but was wondering if you found your idle problem, or if was a more serious issue.
