    SS 4 stroke Motors

Is the only difference between SS motors their counterparts the trim and paint. It's hard to tell if they offer any advantage for bass boats. I am toying with the idea of replacing my 1990 rude 150xp with a df175 which doesn't have a SS version. Maybe they are flashed differently for torque and rpm higher speed applications

I found this but the only difference seems to be the trim and paint. I guess I am wondering if the 150ss would be better at WOT running and holeshot than the 175?

I don't know on the little ones. My 250ss has the 300 block where the standard 250 has a smaller block and displacement. I figure the 175 may be the same but am not sure.

I'll say this... I am very happy with my choice to use the 250ss as my motor. Tons of torque. Great fuel mileage. Runs 70 plus and has room to grow when I get a 1 pitch up prop. Plus 6 year warrantee when I got mine.

It looks like the 150 and 150ss Specs are the same except the ss looks like the 250ss.

Well I bet they are good reliable engines. Never been in a boat with one but see lots of pontoons with a 140 and 150 suzuki around.

I actually wondered the same thing. I went with the 150SS for a couple of reasons. First was the cost. Second if you look at the 175 specs and the 150SS specs the engines are the same bore and stroke and same max rpm. I have owned my 150SS for almost a year now. Once I got the prop figured out I have been beyond pleased. I can tell you this. I am sold on Suzuki! It sips the gas, has a ton of torque and looks great on my Gambler!

I forgot one other cool feature. There is an additional charging output that has a built in battery isolator. You can charge your accessory battery while the motor is running.

Suzuki's are fine motors. It's a shame they don't have a much larger dealer base. Same goes for Honda outboards.

Zuki's are different animals because of their planetary gear in the drive shaft. They're run with large diameter, very high pitch props. Many more mechanics are used to setting up Merc's and Yammie's--and unfamiliar with setting up Suzuki's.

That sounds pretty cool. How big is your gambler, what prop, and what top speed are you seeing?

Anyone know of good reason to go with a 175 vs a 150ss on a 18' bass boat?

56 MPH GPS here on a 19'5" dual console, 175DF at about 5600 RPM, but I could use a little bigger prop. It will do 6100 RPM but who runs that speed for long? Bought it used so I don't run it too hard.

Suzuki has introduced the fly by wire digital throttle & shift AP in the 150 & 175 this year.

I am running the 15" diameter and 24 pitch on my Gambler Outlaw. I can get 58.3 mph at 6100 rpm. I have it on a 6" Atlas jack plate. So far the 15" diameter props are working the best.
