    Simple question

Would you buy a bike with a salvage title?

    Depends on the bike.

Usually salvage titles are for totaled vehicles. There is so much out there for bikes, including better aftermarket frames, it could be better than a new one, or it could be junk. If it's a good buy, get it.

Sure -- if --it rides/runs OK. Cosmetic damage can be fixed easily.

And a lot of them are totaled for only cosmetics.

That's what he SAID was the issue. Busted up fairing so it had to be a drop or a hit... Nice looking bike with a 103 kit and cams, Power tuner an Rhinehart exhaust...
inside of fairing is painted to match....
Just can't get past the title though...

A "totaled" bike may be different from one Ins company to another. Progressive is the worse to up to a 70% salvage value on a wrecked bike, meaning that when the repairs are greater than 30% of the bike's value it is declared "totaled". They pay off the claim (usually at a lower value than the customer expects) then sells the bike to make a profit. Personally, I think this is BS and have argued with the adjusters about their raping the customer but it falls on deaf ears. It happened to me in '06 on my '03 H-D FLHT but I beat them at their own game...I worked at the dealership and was able to lower the labor costs to keep my bike and rebuild it.

As for a salvage title, sometimes they are harder to insure and some companies won't insure them at all. Registering them can be a hassle as they have to be inspected and verified to be road worthy (at least that is what I've seen in a couple of cases a few years ago). The resale value is dramatically lower as well.
