    198 steering

Hey guys, I have a 2006 198 w/225xs that is fairly new to me and I've noticed the last few times i took it out that when I get up to speed, 50-60+ the steering gets hard for a few seconds then "breaks free". It even throws the back end sideways a little. And steering left seems easier than the right....any thoughts?

Sorry its taken so long to reply, been really busy. Thanks for the response, I already have a tempest and the jackplate is at right about 4". I was actually thinking it was too low as I have no rooster tail at all...? A local shop said I probably have air in my steering lines so I'm gonna bleed those tonight. Any thoughts?

Had a similar problem on my 2005 champ 198. My steering has tilt. A set screw in the tilt linkage had backed out and was rubbing. Tightened it up and solved the problem.
Pull the rubber shroud back and check the tilt linkage for any loose screws
