question for the pad work guys

My X19 has a few weld boogers on the driver side of the boat that the passenger side don't. My passenger side wants to lift but my driver side pulls it back down...given it a mixture of porpoising and chime walk at the same time. I want to remove these boogers to help even out the boat. My question is...whats esiest and safiest to knock these boogers off?
I also thinking about going ahead and doing the pad work when I get time and can't seem to find the post with what material to coat the bottom with...what is it?

    Thhanks in advance!

I used a flapper wheel for a 5" grinder. They cut good and don't load up as bad as a regular grinding wheel. As far as coating I just used enamel paint that I have for touch up. CJ

Thanks man! I found a 80 grit flapper disc. Did you grind just the bottom or bottom and back of the 90 where the transom meets the pad? I finally got a few days off work and going to try and get it done this week.

I did not grind much of the weld at all. just removed paint added filler. sanded added more filler over and over.
not to put a lot of filler at one time but several small coats.

What did you use for filler?

I smoothed the center weld about 6' up the hull and knocked off all of the edges and weld boogers off the weldment where it meets the transom. What ever would effect water flow. I did not use any type of filler because this boat does occasionally bump a stump or rock in Canada. Cj

Thanks guys! I was able to knock the boogers off with a file and elbow grease this afternoon. Hopefully touch the paint up tomorrow and go get it a test run to see if it makes a difference. If not I guess I'll be attempting the full pad work.

I was able to some what run the boat today. I could never get it stretched out just right cuz of all the other boats on the water. The crazy porpoise/chime walk is now gone just chime walk which is good. I picked up a 1-2 mph at 5000rpms But I also was in the boat solo with a half tank of gas. My left hand turns are now smooth like my right hand turns and not not bouncing all over the place while turning. I think I need more bow lift cuz I'm over trimming to get the lift I want. Its still a working progress but I'm 1 step closer.

Good to hear Jason.....knocking them boogers off makes a big difference! A good trophy prop will lift the bow and stern.

Great, makes you feel good when something you do actually helps! CJ

Define "booger". Weld bead? Crooked bead? Sloppy weld?

I did this on my X70 and picked up about 4mph. I used Marine Tex as a filler and then sanded it down to smooth out the pad and sharpen the edges.

nice. i believe i picked up 4-5 mph back in the day.
takes alot of money to get that much out of just a motor hop up
that only takes some time on your back and some manual labor.

the back pad area of a xpress boat would be my definition.
    some better than others.

reynolds racing had one at the boat show years ago that the pad went some past the edge and welded on outside.
i may have a picture somewhere of it. not sure how he got them to do it but pad was smooth all the way back.
hes a smart a... but he knows how to make a boat run.
