Real Life Characters of Lonesome Dove

There is a cemetery not far from me in Weatherford where Oliver Loving (Gus McCrae in the movie) and Bose Ikard (Deets in the movie) are buried. Also buried in this cemetery is a Texas Governor and a Civil War Union Army Medal of Honor recipient. Charles Goodnight was Woodrow Call in the movie. Lots of very olds graves there, could have spent more time there.

with me four years on the Goodnight-Loving Trail, never shirked duty or disobeyed an order, rode with me in many stampedes, participated in three engagements with Comanches, splendid behavior. C. GOODNIGHT

Very interesting, Lonesome Dove is one of the greatest movies ever made, hands down.

Thanks for that info Rain Man. I love that stuff. And Lonesome Dove is one of my all time favorite movies. Watch it at least twice a year.

When you get time, please email me the location of that Graveyard. It's on my bucket list now.

Greenwood Cemetery in Weatherford, easy to find right off 180. Some very old graves there.

I've often wondered how tough a sumbitch you had to be to ride into Texas on a horse and say "I want to live here". No water anywhere except for rivers. Hot as hell. A thorn on everything down south. I find it amazing how tough the settlers were in the mid 1800's.
